Immigration to Canada- Trains, Planes, Automobiles, Tunnels and Visas

If you happen to live in a border town, right up by the Canadian border, you’ll be aware that over the years locally famous tunnels have been found by the authorities – which are by many believed to have been used to smuggle conscientious objectors to the Vietnam War across and into Canada.

Immigration in Canada

Nowadays, the subject of immigrating into Canada is once again big issue here in the United States, and begs the question, "How do I get in?"

Well, if you were born in Canada and then moved away, you're set, because you have dual citizenship. The government is a little tougher on everyone else, though, though so let's talk about visas: There are four ways that you can immigrate into Canada with a visa, one of which is called the "skilled workers visa."

Visa categories

  1. Skilled Workers are economic migrants who are allowed entry into Canada, as permanent residents as they are deemed to have the required profile and credentials to become economically established in Canada. This is to assure you have gainful employment in Canada. Applications under this option are processed by the Canadian Federal government's Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada ("CIC"). To qualify under this program, applicants (or their partner) must be able to satisfy the basic visa requirements and meet the current pass mark. Each province has their own requirements as to what skills a skilled worker must posses, so contact the Department of immigration in the providence that you wish to immigrate to for further details.

  2. The Business Immigration Category has been designed to attract experienced business persons to Canada. There's pretty much an investing basics 101 reasoning here. Successful candidates are people who can invest in, start businesses in Canada and generate revenues and employment for Canadians. Good for the Government (taxes), good for the people (jobs) and good for you (you get to live there and make a living there). It is advisable to employ a business lawyer to have a business plan in place before applying.

  3. The Family Migration Program has been designed foster the long-held belief that families should be allowed to be reunited. In effect, Canada’s recently adopted Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA), once again specifically determined family reunification as one of its main objectives. This is reflected as well in numbers. Of the 221,340 immigrant visas granted in 2003, just over 70,000 visas were allocated to the Family Sponsorship Program. This category is a huge loophole; you can be allowed into Canada if your girlfriend or boyfriend has family there. Check out the website for details.

  4. The temporary or student visa is the one used most often. If you are planning to go to school in Canada, or plan to go for an extended vacation, this is the one to get. You may stay for different lengths, determined by your purpose for entering. Many Americans simply breeze through customs after a short search, to visit or vacation for a few days.
Who else immigrates into Canada?

Among the people live in Canada are many famous artists- painters, jazz musicians, and more. Modern renaissance artist Loretta Fascan is from Canada. Persons whho who are of other descents are American, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Hispanic men and women make up the list of immigrants onto Canadian soil.

The Heinz (ketchup) family is originally from Germany, and makes their home in Canada. (Remember that the next time you use it in some home made Russian salad dressing) Mexican money artist J.Peral immigrated to Canada six years ago. His biography can be found at www.cbnco.com/bluepages/sep01-one.html. Harriet Tubman is probably the most famous black person to immigrate into Canada.
